NTNUI Sailing Season Begins
NTNUI Sailing has started off with a bang, three weekends in a row and they’ve been super busy.
On 15 March, NTNUI Sailing kicked off their 2025 season with boat prep, dusting off the cobwebs, and getting everything ready for the upcoming events. This was all in preparation for the Beginner’s Course, held from 21-23 March.
Here’s what Guro Gjesdal, the 2025 team leader, had to say:

Beginner’s Course
“We were thrilled to welcome 30 enthusiastic new sailors to our Beginner’s Sailing Course (21-23 March). Additionally, we held a 'check-out session' for 11 experienced sailors looking to join our group.
Friday evening started with a theory session covering essential sailing techniques and safety procedures. Afterward, we had a pizza night, where the students had the opportunity to meet each other and interact with the check-out session participants.
On Saturday and Sunday, we took to the water! The beginners sailed in our 5 Ynglings, all equipped with Ullman sails. Each boat had two course participants and a dedicated instructor to guide them through the basics of sailing, rigging, and maneuvering in and out of the harbor. We were fortunate to have sunny weather, with temperatures around 10°C and a gentle to moderate breeze. One of our Saturday sessions saw a bit more wind than ideal for beginners, so we focused on rigging and boat positioning instead.
We are excited to see so many eager students, and we’re grateful to our committee members for their hard work coaching, supporting, and planning the weekend. We look forward to welcoming our new sailors to our weekly practices, where they’ll continue to improve and develop their sailing skills!”
Student League (Studentliga)
“Over the weekend of March 27–30, NTNUI had the pleasure of welcoming 12 teams from seven universities to the very first Student Sailing League event at Tautra. From Thursday to Sunday, participants stayed together at Trondhjems Seilforening’s seaside cabin, where they enjoyed lively social evenings—an incredible opportunity to forge friendships across universities.
Despite challenging and shifting wind conditions, the NTNUI race committee successfully organized 12 thrilling races over two action-packed days. Competing in a league-format with four Melges24 boats, the teams battled fiercely, with several races decided by mere seconds. In the end, NTNUI’s Dreams Prospect delivered a flawless performance, securing first place in every race to claim overall victory. NTNUI Godt Rigga took second place, followed closely by Monaco Vicunas in third.
The weekend concluded with a banquet and prize-giving ceremony, where teams shared speeches and traditions from their home universities, adding a special touch to the event’s celebratory atmosphere.
With such an exciting and successful debut, organizers hope this regatta will become a cherished tradition for years to come!”
