ullman sails south Africa
African Optimist Championship Loading
We’re incredibly proud to support young sailing talent, and this month we're thrilled to share an update on the impressive achievements of Ullman Sails South Africa sponsored Optimist sailor, Sean van Aswegen.
2–4 April – Hermanus Training Camp
Sean kicked off the month with a focused three-day training camp in Hermanus, where he joined 14 other sailors under the guidance of coach Arin Long. The camp combined on-water drills and off-water strategy sessions to sharpen skills ahead of the competitive season.

5–6 April – Overberg Championships @ Theewaterkloof Dam
Sean showed his competitive edge at the Overberg Champs, finishing 2nd overall after five races. A fantastic result and a great confidence boost!

Western Cape Dinghy Championships – Saldanha Bay
The month wrapped up with the Western Cape Dinghy Championships, an important regatta that drew 29 Optimist sailors to the start line. With a mix of light wind and stronger breeze days, Sean demonstrated excellent adaptability and consistency, finishing 6th overall.
This regatta also played a crucial role in national selection – and we’re proud to announce that Sean has officially qualified to represent South Africa at the African Optimist Championship in Tanzania this August!
Sean will be heading to the Agadir International Optimist Regatta from 7 - 11 May, so be sure to keep your eye out on the Ullman Sails South Africa pages for updates on Sean.
We’re all very excited to see Sean compete in Agadir in May and in Tanzania in August.
Fair winds and following seas - We’re behind you all the way!
