Andrew and his crew claimed victory at the ASBA Nationals, at Royal Prince Albert Yacht Club, February 7 - 9. Like Oxygen, was designed by Andrew York and Bruce Hollis designed her sails.

Here’s a bit of insight from Andrew York on Like Oxygen.

“She is a full carbon 28 foot, 8.5m sports boat which I developed from the REO 7.2 and REO 7.7 I designed and put on the water. REO 8.5 weighs 510kg, 1120 lbs. She was built by Innovation Composites in Nowra with the keel by Ian Dixon and the rudder by Greg Patterson.

The rig is not very tall as the boat is light and we sail with 4 crew instead of the standard 8 for a boat this size.

The broad lines and long chines give her a lot of form stability. This means the boat weight adds enormously to the righting moment, while other sports boats that sail upright rely solely on crew weight for stability.”

We’re incredibly proud and excited to see what happens next with Like Oxygen. Watch their racing videos now
