The 43rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE, held from July 26 to August 2, 2025, in Palma de Mallorca, was a historic edition of the prestigious Mediterranean regatta. For the first time, the event hosted the ORC European Championship, adding even greater weight to its results.

Among the standout stories of the week was the commanding performance of the Nunoto Cafiver Sailing Team, skippered by Mon Cañellas aboard a Vrolijk 37.

ORC C Division Victory

Racing in the Uber ORC C Division, Nunoto Cafiver delivered consistent top finishes throughout the week. Their performance peaked in the final days, where they scored a string of podium results (including double race wins) to overtake early leaders like Germany’s Early Bird.

In the end, Nunoto Cafiver secured the ORC C Division title, proving their tactical sharpness and resilience in a fiercely competitive fleet.

ORC European Champions

The triumph in ORC C wasn’t just a class win; it earned Nunoto Cafiver the coveted title of 2025 ORC European Champions. With four ORC divisions racing side by side, this crown recognized them as the best in Europe at the highest level of handicap racing.

Copa del Rey Overall Champions

Adding to their accolades, Nunoto Cafiver also claimed the Copa del Rey Overall Title, awarded to the best-performing team across all ORC divisions. This rare “triple crown” ORC C Champions, ORC European Champions, and Copa del Rey Overall Champions cemented their status as the dominant force of the 2025 regatta.

The campaign was made even more special thanks to Álvaro García, from Ullman Sails Spain and Canary Islands, who sailed as part of the Nunoto Cafiver crew. The boat was powered exclusively by a full wardrobe of Ullman sails, showcasing the performance, speed, and reliability of our sails on one of the sport’s most demanding stages.

For skipper Mon Cañellas, García, and the entire crew, this was a career-defining achievement. To not only win their division, but also to emerge as both European and Copa del Rey Overall Champions, placed Nunoto Cafiver at the pinnacle of the international sailing stage.

As the Mediterranean racing circuit looks ahead to its next events, the Palma regatta will be remembered as the year Nunoto Cafiver delivered one of the most impressive campaigns in recent Copa del Rey history.
