A Strong few Weeks for Ullman Sails UK:
From Dartmouth to Lymington, class wins, podium finishes and new sails made for a busy few weeks on the water.
There was plenty to celebrate for the Ullman fleet at Dartmouth Royal Regatta Sailing Week, with class wins, podium finishes and new sails getting a proper run on the racecourse.
Andy and Vicky Williams took the overall win in YTC 1 aboard the XP-44 Xara, racing with a full FiberPath upwind and Axia downwind inventory, with Ullman Sails UK’s owner, Jon Pegg and his wife Elly onboard.
In IRC 2, Peter Wanstall and the A35 Men Behaving Badly took the class win with a full FiberPath and Axia inventory. Brian and Hanna’s J/99 Jalapeño 3, sailing with Rob Larke, finished third and debuted a particularly smart new black-film jib.
Ian and Team Hamble took IRC 4 aboard the Quarter Tonner Protis, also carrying a full FiberPath upwind and Axia downwind inventory.
A special mention goes to Matt and John aboard the Laser 28 Elusive. With the boat and sails together for only around a week, they progressed from 11th in the opening race to 1st in the final race, securing a very creditable fourth overall. Their Ullman Race and Axia inventory included a distinctive jib made by the Ullman UK loft from Contender cloth with design input from Lars.
Jon’s verdict? “Absolute weapon.” Even Southy apparently admitted he couldn’t shake them on the final day.
Rounding out the Dartmouth results, Dom Fox took the YTC 4 win aboard his MGC 27 Synergy, racing with Ullman Race upwind sails and a new mainsail delivered just the week before.
FROM DARTMOUTH TO LYMINGTON
The Ullman UK connection continued at the 6 Metre British Championships in Lymington, where Nirvana took first in the Classic division and third overall across the six-race championship.
At the helm was Andy Postle, with Ullman Sails UK’s Rob Larke onboard and Ullman UK loft owner Jon Pegg supporting the team as coach throughout the championship.
Nirvana mixed it with the modern Open Division boats throughout the event, including an impressive second overall in Race 5.
For Jon, it meant swapping racing at Dartmouth for a coaching role in Lymington, rounding out a busy few weeks for the Ullman UK loft both on and off the water.
Different boats, different fleets and different roles, but plenty for the team to take back to the loft.
