Built to Last:
Some miles test performance. Others prove it.
Sometimes it's a 20-foot boat carrying one sailor around the world. Sometimes it's a 50-year-old One Design fleet bringing 74 boats back to the start line. Sometimes it's a set of sails that races, crosses oceans and comes home ready to race again.
This month, those stories take us from the Southern Ocean to Santa Cruz, around Fyn, through Dartmouth and offshore with Ullman Sails Japan.
Different boats, sailors and miles, but each one is a reminder that the things worth building in sailing are meant to keep going.
And few stories capture that better than Greg Were and Hummingbird.

50 Years. Still Racing.
Fifty years after the first Moore 24 was launched, 74 boats returned to the start line in Santa Cruz for the class’s 50th Anniversary National Championship.
With only 156 Moore 24s ever built, that meant nearly half the entire production run came together to race. We look back at Ullman’s history in the fleet, from Gruntled in 2016 to Pegasus at the front in 2026.

SIX IN A ROW: Another Cruisers Cup, another win for Chuck Skewes and the crew.
Some winning streaks take a little explaining.
This one doesn't.
Chuck Skewes, owner of Ullman Sails PNW & San Diego and the crew aboard Marilu came away with another win at the 2026 Cruisers Cup, formerly known as the Beneteau Cup, extending a run that now stretches to six consecutive years.
The competition hasn't stood still either. Chuck says the racing has continued to get stronger each year, making number six another satisfying one to add to the tally.
“That makes six years in a row. The competition gets better every year.”
For Chuck, it was another good week on the water with a familiar team, and another result to add to an increasingly impressive run.

A Strong Few Weeks for Ullman UK
From class wins and podium finishes at Dartmouth Royal Regatta Sailing Week to the 6 Metre British Championships in Lymington, it’s been a busy few weeks for the Ullman UK team.
At Dartmouth, Ullman-powered boats came away with wins across YTC and IRC, while new sails were put properly through their paces.
The following week, Ullman UK loft owner Jon Pegg headed to Lymington to coach the team aboard Nirvana, with Rob Larke onboard, finishing first in the Classic division and third overall.

FIRST HOME FOR HANAMIZUKI: A fast outward leg, a long beat home and a strong result for the Ullman Sails Japan team.
It was a lively one for Hanamizuki, with the MAT 1220 and her crew facing very different conditions across the two legs.
The outward passage brought winds of more than 30 knots, with Hanamizuki reaching speeds above 20 knots at times. Despite the pace and conditions, the team kept the boat moving cleanly and made it through without any major mistakes or problems.
The trip home was a different story.
A long close-hauled leg tested both boat and crew, but Hanamizuki kept working her way through the fleet to finish first home and third overall on IRC.
THE NEXT CREW
There was another message from the team after the finish that we particularly liked.
Hanamizuki is actively welcoming younger sailors who want to experience offshore sailing, including those coming from dinghy and keelboat backgrounds.
Results are always worth celebrating, but so is creating the opportunity for the next sailor to step aboard, head offshore and learn what it's all about.

One Set of Sails. A Lot of Miles.
Built in 2022, the Ullman sails aboard Jan Andersen’s 33-foot trimaran Black Marlin have already done their fair share of travelling.
After racing in Denmark, they carried Black Marlin from Denmark to New Zealand and back before returning to the racecourse for the 2026 Silverrudder.
Four years after they were built, Jan completed his fastest lap around Fyn yet in 14:07:21, using the same set of sails.
