The Formula 1 of Sailing:
Michael Radziejowski Takes on the JJ Giltinan
The JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff Championship is widely regarded as the most prestigious trophy in skiff sailing. Known for its "win at all costs" intensity and massive sail plans, the regatta on Sydney Harbour is a true test of nerve and athleticism.
For the first time in seven years, the United States returned to the starting grid, and the Ullman Sails family was right in the thick of it.
Our very own Michael Radziejowski, a key member of the Ullman Sails San Francisco team, competed as part of the American contingent. While the results on the scoreboard are one thing, the true victory was seeing an American flag back in the most competitive skiff fleet on the planet.
Sailing an 18ft Skiff is less like sailing and more like low-altitude flight. With three people on the wire and a massive asymmetrical spinnaker, these boats reach speeds that defy logic. Watching Michael and the crew navigate the iconic Sydney Harbour ferries and shifting breezes at 25+ knots is a testament to the skill we have behind the scenes at our lofts.
We don't just build sails; we live for the thrill of the race. Having our employees competing at the absolute pinnacle of the sport ensures that the technical advice and craftsmanship you receive at the loft are backed by real-world, high-performance experience.
